One of the most noticeable signs of aging is a changing neck and chin. While most young people have firm, smooth necks, older adults often have sagging skin, wrinkles, or stubborn fat pockets. Even a person who maintains good health and hygiene may reveal their age with a sagging neck. As a result, Dr. Bounds sees many patients each year who are looking to return their neck to its youthful appearance. As you consider a procedure targeting your neck, you might wonder which is right for you. Fortunately, it is easy to decide between Kybella and a neck lift, as each procedure targets a different problem.

Is a Neck Lift Right For Me?

Neck lifts remain one of the most transformative plastic surgery procedure. Through discrete incisions, Dr. Bounds removes excess skin and fat from the neck. The benefit of a neck lift is that it can target both excess skin and excess fat. After removing the excess fat, Dr. Bounds pulls the skin taut and ensures that excess skin is removed. This returns the neck to a youthful shape and could take decades off your appearance.

A neck lift might be the right choice for you if you suffer from both sagging skin and excess fat. Luckily, neck lifts can often provide great results for people of all ages. Although excess skin is generally associated with older patients, young people who have gone through extreme weight loss, excessive sun exposure, or just naturally have excess skin often benefit from neck lifts.

Is Kybella Right For Me?

Unlike a neck lift, Kybella is a non-surgical procedure. Kybella relies on injections that target fat pockets of the upper neck, often called a “double chin.” Kybella targets fat cells and destroys them, guaranteeing that they will not grow back. As the cells are completely destroyed, even weight gain will not change the appearance of your neck significantly. However, because Kybella only targets fat cells, Dr. Bounds usually recommends it to patients with good skin elasticity. Otherwise, a surgical procedure targeting excess skin may be required in combination with Kybella to achieve the results you desire.
