More people work from home than ever before, and this line of work often comes with regular Zoom meetings or video calls. Less-than-ideal lighting and angles may have made you more aware of your aging skin and appearance. Your mind may wander to your cosmetic concerns with your face and neck while you try to listen to the speaker on the screen.

Dr. Kevin Bounds is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Virginia Beach who can help you achieve a younger appearance through facial plastic surgery or non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

Renew Your Appearance with Injectables

Injectables such as Juvéderm, Restylane and Revance can rejuvenate your appearance with little downtime. These products offer natural-looking results and can address lines and wrinkles in the forehead, between the brows and around the nose and mouth, as well as restore volume to the cheeks. We offer neuromodulator injectables (Botox, Dysport and Jeuveau) that temporarily immobilize the muscles that lead to lines and wrinkles.

Reveal a Well-Rested Look with Blepharoplasty

Drooping or sagging eyelids can make you appear tired and older than your chronological age. Blepharoplasty addresses the upper and lower eyelids to reduce puffiness, bags under the eyes, sagging skin, stretched muscles and fat accumulation. The procedure removes fat and excess skin tissue, tightens underlying muscles and shapes the eyelids for a youthful, well-rested appearance.

Rejuvenate Your Facial Profile with a Neck Lift

The neck area often shows signs of aging before many regions of the face due to weight fluctuations, long-term sun exposure and gravity. A neck lift targets sagging skin along with folds and wrinkles in the neck to sculpt the area. Dr. Bounds can give you a smooth, taut neck and jawline and help you get rid of neckbands and lines.

Reverse Time with Facelift or Mini-Facelift

Time, gravity and hormonal changes create many challenges for your facial tissues and skin. Dr. Bounds offers the facelift to address sagging skin and deep lines and wrinkles, as well as elevate the eyelids and brow line, for noticeable yet natural-looking results. A mini-facelift reduces signs of aging in the lower third of your face, where fat may accumulate and muddle the jawline, causing jowling, lines and wrinkles around the mouth and chin.

Dr. Bounds also offers facial liposuction to improve the contour of your face for a slimmer profile on your next Zoom call. He will discuss your plastic surgery and non-surgical treatment options and determine the best way to achieve your cosmetic goals during your initial consultation.

Liposuction is best known as a body contouring procedure that targets pockets of fat that seem immune to diet and exercise. As many of us learn as we grow older, these stubborn pouches are not confined to the middle or lower body: The face is another example of an area where time, gravity and lifestyle choices conspire to create excess volume.

Below, experienced Virginia Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Kevin Bounds discusses how submental liposuction can be an effective solution for pinchable fat under the chin and along the jawline, including the dreaded “turkey waddle” and double chin.

The Procedure

Submental liposuction is an outpatient procedure that is performed using local anesthesia. Dr. Bounds makes one or more small incisions in the face or neck and inserts a slender, hollow tube known as a cannula. This is a smaller version of the instrument used for liposuction performed on the body, but it works the very same way — by suctioning out fat cells from the target area.

Because aesthetic balance is so important, it typically takes about an hour for a surgeon to reshape the chin and jawline. In most cases only a few ounces of fat will be removed, but this modest sculpting can result in a profound, yet subtle, change in your facial profile.

The Ideal Candidate

As with other types of liposuction, this procedure is not a treatment for obesity. Large volumes of fat cannot be safely removed during a single session, and so it is important that patient make a determined effort to bring their weight into the normal range before the surgery is performed.

Your satisfaction and results will depend in part on the elasticity of your skin. Flexible, supple skin will easily conform to the slimmer shape under the chin, providing maximum benefit from the surgery. Skin that tends to sag may still appear loose after fat has been removed. In some cases this can be addressed with other types of procedures, such as neck lift.

The relative flexibility of your skin is largely determined by your genetic inheritance, but certain lifestyle behaviors can have an impact, including smoking, excess alcohol intake, poor diet and lack of exercise.

To learn more about submental liposuction, schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Bounds in his Virginia Beach office by calling or emailing today.

Whether your desire is to plump up your lips for a sexy fullness or to replace the fullness that has disappeared with age, lip augmentation with dermal fillers is the most commonly used method of treatment. Hyaluronic acid fillers have come to replace collagen, fat injections and implants as they have more predictable results with less risk of side effects. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in your body. Virginia Beach Plastic Surgeon Dr. Kevin Bounds is our Expert Injector and will provide your treatment.

Hyaluronic Acid Fillers can improve the appearance of your lips by adding, shape, structure and volume. The effects last between six months and a year or more depending upon the type of filler. There are several filler types among them Restylane and Juvederm products. All of them are injected and most contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic.

The injection of Hyaluronic acid gel supports and shapes the tissues in the lips. The amount of volume is controlled by the injector. The injections can be added at different times to allow the patient to increase volume over time. The results are long lasting but not permanent. Allergic reactions are less likely because hyaluronic acid fillers are made from substances similar to those found in the body. Do let your Plastic Surgeon know if you are allergic to lidocaine.

What should you expect during the treatment? Dr. Bounds will review your goals and develop a plan. He will inject the filler with very tiny needles. The lidocaine in the filler will numb the area and you should feel pressure more than pain. You will notice a difference immediately. Your lips will appear fuller at first and then swelling will decrease for your final results. There may be swelling, bruising and tenderness. Ice may be given to reduce the discomfort and control swelling. Do not apply lipstick or lip products immediately after the treatment.

There are side effects and risks which include bleeding from the sites, swelling, bruising and re-activaton of cold sores or fever blisters. There can be some longer periods of swelling and asymmetry and lumps or irregularities of the lips. Infections and ulceration of the lips can occur in rare cases. Call you doctor if you see extreme swelling or fever.

The cost of lip augmentation varies with the type of filler used and can vary from $575 to $875 per syringe. All treatments at Plastic Surgery of Virginia Beach are performed by our Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Kevin Bounds. Pre and Post treatment photos are available to see results from his patients.

Is Lip Augmentation right for You? It is important that you personally want to enhance your lips and that you are making the choice for yourself and not another person. Your expectations should be realistic. Your lips will be plumper and fuller either as an improvement to what you see now or a return to the fullness you had. Either way you will still be yourself when you leave our office.

We would be happy to schedule a consultation with Dr. Bounds at our office off First Colonial Road in the Virginia Beach Hilltop area.

You’re ready for the procedure, now let’s review some things about your physical recovery after the facelift.

You are likely to experience some discomfort after your facelift procedure but will have medications to relieve this.

You will be wearing facial garments which may feel somewhat tight and restrictive but help reduce swelling and improve your recovery.

Recovery is typically around two weeks, you can resume a more active lifestyle after four weeks.

Sutures are removed seven to ten days after surgery.

You should follow your surgeon’s instructions about showering and bathing, specifically when it’s okay to wash your hair.

Numbness and muscle stiffness is normal for some time. Scars, although hidden can take up to a year to fade.

Remember that although genetics play a role in your physical appearance, a healthy lifestyle with a good diet and exercise can help maintain your beauty. Begin by following a low sodium diet just after your procedure.

Your facelift will enhance your beauty. To continue the benefits avoid smoking, limit your alcohol intake, and try to reduce stress and sun exposure.

Most people don’t even know that there are two different types of the procedure “facelift”. If you are considering undergoing a procedure like this, it is important to understand and know your options since they vary in price and intensity.

Mini Facelift

What is it?

Mini facelift surgery is the most common type of facelift surgery performed today. It addresses wrinkles and sagging skin on the lower third of the face using small incisions placed around the ears. It restores definition to the chin by removing excess tissue and artfully tightening remaining tissue. A skilled plastic surgeon such as Dr. Kevin Bounds can tailor a mini facelift procedure to give you a youthful, more refreshed appearance that accentuates your natural beauty and boosts your confidence.

Who is it for?

Mini facelift surgery appeals to many men and women because it can address some of the most prominent signs of aging. For example, some people experience hormonal changes, or are genetically predisposed to losing definition in their jaw. Many patients turn to mini facelift surgery to restore this definition.

Facelift

What is it?

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure in facial surgery that aims to give a more youthful appearance to the face. It reshapes the lower half of the face by removing excess facial skin.

Rhytidectomy can tighten loose, hanging skin around the jaw line, also known as “jowls.” It can also remove deep creases around the mouth and nose, and excess, hanging skin and fat under the chin and in the neck. The procedure can also tighten the underlying tissues, and it may be combined with plastic surgery to enhance the forehead, cheeks, brows, and eyelids.

Who is it for?

Roughly 100,000 women a year receive this procedure in the U.S. alone while only 30,000 men undergo a facelift. Even though there is a stigma, this procedure is for both sexes. This procedure targets areas on the face to give the patient a more rejuvenated look. If you are looking to look younger and more fruitful, this may be the procedure for you.
