What is a Facelift?

The facelift procedure can reverse signs of aging and result in a smooth, even, and more uplifted face. Unlike fillers and Botox®, the facelift is a surgical procedure with noticeable results (but no one will know why!), even on your most obvious and troublesome signs of aging. The facelift procedure is ideal for correcting deep lines, wrinkles, creases, and sagging skin. The facelift procedure can also help to lift the eyelids and brow line, to restore your younger appearance. The facelift procedure considers to be most popular because it is effective and gives our patients fantastic results.

Who is a Candidate for a Facelift?

The facelift procedure is most recommended for women over the age of forty whom have noticeable signs of aging on more than one area of the face. The facelift is the only procedure capable of correcting multiple signs of aging on multiple areas of the face, such as correcting forehead wrinkles and sagging cheeks at one time. If you’ve noticed that the aging process has left you looking like a different version of yourself, the facelift can help you feel like “you” again. The facelift is especially helpful at treating the most stubborn signs of aging, including the deep wrinkles across the forehead, on the sides of mouth, and the vertical wrinkles between the brows. If your eyelids are of significant concern, this procedure can be combined with an eye lift (LINK) for maximum results. Schedule a consultation today to discuss your true candidacy.

How is a Face Lift Performed?

The facelift procedure is performed using only local anesthesia so that you can remain completely comfortable and awake during the entire procedure. To begin the procedure, Dr. Bounds will make small incisions along the hairline and in the natural crease right in front of the ears, for invisible scarring. Using these incisions, Dr. Bounds will separate fat from the underlying muscle and contour the areas of the face (for example, moving excess fat out of the jawline and into the cheeks) for a more youthful shape. Once the fat is removed and the face is sculpted, Dr. Bounds will pull the skin taut on the face for a smooth, toned appearance and will close the incisions. Once the incisions are closed, the healing process can begin. We will prepare you for your individual aftercare plan at your consultation.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost in Virginia Beach, VA?

The cost of your facelift will depend on the scope of your treatment, and the amount of correction needed. Dr. Bounds will discuss the cost for your facelift procedure at your consultation, where he will develop a specialized treatment plan just for you. For your convenience, we offer CareCredit® and APLPHAEON financing on all procedures. For more information, visit our patient financing page.

More Frequently Asked Questions About Facelift

How can I tell if I need a facelift?

You may benefit from a facelift if you are bothered by any of the following signs of aging:

  • Jowls
  • Loss of definition along the jaw between the face and neck
  • Wrinkles from the corners of the mouth to the jaw
  • Wrinkles from the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Sagging cheeks
  • Muscle banding on the neck
  • Loose skin on the neck

Facelift is an excellent anti-aging procedure, but it does not treat low, sagging eyebrows or extra eyelid skin or fat. Furthermore, facelift does not treat age spots, sun spots or other pigmentation problems.

Is there a perfect age for facelift?

There is no perfect age for a facelift. Some facelift patients are in their forties and others are in their eighties. As long as you are in good health and have noticeable signs of aging and reasonable expectations, your age does not matter very much.

With that in mind, the majority of facelift patients are in their mid-fifties to mid-sixties

What happens during a facelift consultation?

During your facelift consultation, Dr. Bounds will inquire about your reasons for seeking a facelift and what you want to look like after surgery. He will also ask you about your health and lifestyle. All of this information helps him give you treatment recommendations.

Dr. Bounds will explain in detail what happens during a facelift and what to expect during the recovery process. He will explain how to prepare for the procedure. Dr. Bounds can answer all of your facelift questions and address any concerns you have.

When can I resume work after facelift?

If you work a sedentary desk job, you can resume work approximately one week after your surgery. If your job involves heavy lifting or straining, you will need to take a few additional weeks off before returning to work.

When will I see results after a facelift?

You can see initial improvements to your facial appearance almost immediately after surgery. However, your results will be partially concealed by swelling and bruising. Expect to see your final results about two to three months after surgery.

What will my facelift scars look like?

Your facelift scars should be imperceptible. Since the incisions are created in the hairline and in the natural creases around the ears, scarring should blend into the natural transitions of your skin. Dr. Bounds uses special techniques to minimize noticeable scarring. He will also give you comprehensive instructions for caring for your healing incisions so that your scars fade well.

How much younger will I look after facelift?

Facelift can turn back the clock approximately seven to 10 years.

How long will my results last?

Facelift turns back the clock but it does not stop the aging process. Your skin will continue to age and succumb to the effects of gravity after surgery. However, you will always look better than if you did not have a facelift. You can enjoy your results longer if you protect your skin from sun exposure, follow a healthy diet and do not smoke or consume a lot of alcohol.
