Changes in the tone, texture and integrity of our skin usually occur naturally, with the passage of time. When it comes to dynamic wrinkles, our own facial muscle movement plays a key role. For example, some people tend to speak with their full face actively engaged in the conversation, raising eyebrows, grinning broadly or furrowing the brow in recurring, often habitual movements.
Because they are etched in the skin by such repetitive facial expressions, these types of wrinkles can be difficult to erase using traditional dermal fillers. Last September that all changed, with the advent in the market of a new type of advanced dermal filler: the RHA® (Resilient Hyaluronic Acid) Collection. Here, premier plastic surgeon Dr. Kevin Bounds outlines the benefits of the three new RHA products, now available at Plastic Surgery of Virginia Beach.
Designed for Passion
The unique molecular composition of RHA dermal fillers provides a whole new degree of subdermal flexibility. Once injected, the hyaluronic acid gel moves in concert with facial muscles, smoothly and pliantly, across a range of emotions. The aesthetic result is a step beyond that achieved by other dermal fillers; and the look is far more natural than the expressionless or “frozen” facial appearance that neuromodulators may create.
RHA 2 focuses on dynamic lines near the lips and mouth. RHA 3 is used for moderate wrinkles in many areas of the face, especially near the mouth and nose. RHA 4 is the most potent variation, highly effective in treating severe wrinkles and folds.
High Satisfaction
Prior to last year’s approval, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration tested the RHA Collection in two clinical trials. More than 90 percent of study participants were either satisfied or very satisfied one year after the injections. At 15 months, more than 80 percent of participants indicated the product continued to provide a significant amount of reduction in dynamic wrinkles. Separate studies have shown that RHA fillers result in less swelling at the injection site, and seem to bind to subdermal tissue more quickly than traditional dermal fillers.
Precise Injections
For maximum results, Dr. Bounds recommends a 45-minute treatment session. The only sensation you are likely to experience is a feeling of mild pressure or pinching. Because Dr. Bounds is a certified Expert Injector, you can be confident that your treatment will be pleasant, convenient and effective. Only board-certified plastic surgeons, dermatologists and oculoplastic surgeons are allowed to participate in the Expert Injector program, which involves rigorous training in the administration of dermal fillers and other injectables.
